Mitsubishi has upgraded the cooling system of some Outlander models fitted with its continuously variable transmission.
Some cars fitted with the brand’s 2.4-litre engine and CVT displayed transmission warning lights during the car’s Australian media launch in Victoria last year.
The issue does not affect 2.0-litre petrol or 2.2-litre diesel Outlanders.
Mitsubishi spokeswoman Caitlin Beale says the manufacturer will fit a second transmission oil cooler to all new Outlanders fitted with a 2.4-litre engine and CVT transmission. Existing owners can take their cars into dealers to have the same work carried out.

She says the manufacturer was able to replicate the problem, which is believed to be linked to temperatures inside the transmission.
“We are taking it as a precaution to make sure that no one has an issue,” Beale says.
“If anyone does have an issue, we’ll make sure they are taken care of.”
Mitsubishi will not be announcing a recall over the matter, which will be handled on a case by case basis.
